Mark Helman began his career in television in 1981. He was born and raised in Boston and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Arts from the University of Wisconsin. He has been operating as an independent consultant in the industry since 1992.
His work in the 1980's included broadcasting in Worcester, Providence, New Hampshire, and Boston. While at WGBH, he was responsible for the technical direction of many popular PBS programs, including Evening at Pops, Mystery, and Masterpiece Theater.
Mark's experiences in the sporting arenas of television have included the technical direction and editing of all major league sports, both local and national. His production work at four different Olympics earned him three national Emmy Awards.
Mark spent six years in New York at NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw. His work on stories, graphics, and show opens for “Nightly” each evening earned him another national Emmy Award.
Since 2001, Mark has been consulting for Grass Valley, the premier American manufacturer of broadcast production equipment. This has allowed him to develop educational curriculum and perform training at network and local broadcast facilities worldwide. During this time, Mark has also consulted for a number of broadcast and private facilities, helping each of them to develop a better workflow, creative and technical expertise, and corporate image.
